The Book Thread
I read this recently -

fuck me it's good. There is three volumes of six issues each. It's a bit out there, there is magic in the world and it can be channeled through music, but don't worry about that, there's not too much of it to bog down the rest of the stories (ala Grant Morrison in The Invisibles which i'm making my way through at the moment). If you can get the single issues as the glossaries at the back are cracking. lots of bits about early 90's music. anyway go get it
and if you like that go get The Wicked + The Divine by the same people. in face, go get TW+TD any way.

This Changes Everything by Naomi Klein has defeated me. So dense and complicated, it's a massive slog.
Realised I was only on page 80 of ~600 the other day, and it took me weeks to get there. The sheer amount of information on each page, it's a struggle.
The fact that it's a book about the urgency of climate change makes me feel pretty guilty. Maybe I'll come back to it.

it's great. finished it in one day when I was "working" as an extra. I.e. sitting round drinking coffee and reading to avoid talking to weirdos.
Tried to read the first book of the Wheel of Time series. It was fucking garbage. Shite characters doing fuck all. Heavily inspired by Tolkien but not a patch on him.
I'll nearly always finish a book once I've started but that's 3 of the supposed greats in various genres I've now not been able to finish. Dune, also full of shite characters, and a Confederacy of Dunces, which somehow won a fucking Pulitzer.

Bought Chris Ware's latest, Monograph.
It's gigantic, bigger than Building Stories, which was already ridiculously big. Gonna need a bigger shelf.

Read The Three Body Problem. It's a sci fi book translated from Chinese. Couple of things about it worth mentioning:
It's a weird read since it is so obviously translated from another language. Not that its some 90's video game level of translating but often phrases and terms and stuff are kind of strange. But it is set in China so it makes sense. Was a bit jarring though.
Its a very original take on its plot. Dont really want to say what its about, and if you choose to read it, dont read the synopsis or the back cover. Just get into it.
Its set against a backdrop of the Chinese Cultural Revolution but set in the very near future. Really interesting read, very weird, but original as hell. Won a bunch of awards. Not a huge amount of character stuff but a great sci fi story

Started 11-22-63 by Stephen King. My sis-in-law pressed it into my hand the other week and has asked loads of times, have you started it have you started it, so I feel I'll be letting her down if I don't.
It looks very long but I haven't read a King novel in years, so away we go.
Can anyone vouch for it?
