The last book I read was Flat Earth News by Nick Davies.

shocking and depressing, it's amazing how little we're told by the news media about what's going on in the world, and of what we are told, you can't believe most of it. Highly recommended.

I'm towards the end of Darkley Dreaming Dexter. it's a dark comedy. i like it. it wont be to everyones tastes. Dexter is you normal blood splatter expert for the Miami p.d. but in his spare time he hunts down people who have escaped the law and kills them himself. he's doing well until another serial killer startd to kill people...

Really short book, not too bad, obviously translated from French to English, recently made into a movie (which i havent seen yet)

Tells the story of this dude with locked in syndrome, basically the only communication he can make with the world is by blinking one of his eyelids. He wrote the book by blinking on each letter of the alphabet he wanted as it was called out. Basically he just gives the jist of what his life was like before it happened and how he now copes living in a paralysed, mute world.

The book is just okay... i wouldnt go out of my way to read it.... i'd say the movie is better

I very much liked The Road, except for the ending. I thought that it was all a little too...convenient.

Read the Trilogy of Four. Quality stuff. Zany. Some of the asides are very amusing and the book moves along at a nice pace. Highly recommended

The World According To Garp by john irving, oldie (ish - 1978), but goodie i think.
was a bestseller of its time. about the life of a writer and his family, deals with feminism (but not in an annoying way) and marriage. nothing really happens, but it did keep me up til 5 in the morning finishing it so that must be a good sign!

if you liked Catch 22 you'll probly like this.

I was tempted to buy this today, as the book shop were doing a 3 for 2 deal. Should I go back and get it tomorrow then?

I really enjoyed it. It's a little predictable, but incredibly detailed in depicting circus life, and apparently largely based on various true tales and stories. if ya don't get it, i'll give ya my copy whenever yer in galway.

That sounds like a much cheaper option.

Falling Leaves - Adeline Yen Mah.

This is the adult version of Chinese Cinderella, a book a read when I was younger and loved very much. Falling Leaves is the true story of Yen Mah whose family believe she is bad luck as her mother died giving birth to her. It's beautifully written and it allowed me to find out what happened to her after the age of 12 (when Chinese Cinderella left off). I LOVE IT
