Ok I've only watched the first season so far but has it struck anyone else that this is basically a grown up's version of the Twilight books?
Vampire and human fall in love, one has the ability to read all minds except the other person's, werewolf also is a rival for human's love. The vampires are ruled by a type of royalty that makes laws and dishes out punishments to those who break the laws?

It's strange how alike they are.

True Blood is based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris - the first was published in 2001 I think. Its part of a genre of female author supernatural books ( Kim Harrison, Kelley armstrong etc) all of which mix vampire/romance etc to some degree.

Twilight first came out around 2005 I think so it is possible that Meyer was "influenced" by some of the previous novels...

I knew Stephanie Meyer was talking bullshit when she said she 'dreamed' about the plot of the first book. And what's a good Mormon like her doing reading books like that!!! Tut tut tut.

Just watched episdoes 1-3. It's pretty much grown up Twilight like Mojo said

Also, why do they have to have werewolves? Can they just leave the werewolves alone and concentrate on the vampires?!

I think I need to watch more to figure out of I like it. I don't really like any of the characters in it but there's feck all else on :chin:

Its just general Vampire mythology. Read the Vampire Chronicles and its the same sort of stuff, same Vamp politics, same stuff about Vamps with a conscience not wanting to eat people, etc Sure Buffy had a Vampire/Human relationship, warewolves, etc So does the Underowrd films. Its pretty standard fare.

Twilight is like the anti-True Blood really. One preaches abstinence and the other is basically a blood soaked orgy.

Yeah shes wrecking my head. Really hope that Frank Sobotka guy redeems himself by getting one over on her though.

And was showing the claw supposed to be a revelation? I could see that coming in the first episode of the series!!!

Well I can only go on what I've read about Twilight because I'm an adult male and hence have never read the book or seen the film.

Well I'm sure I'm not ruining it for anyone by saying Bella gets totally rode in the last book so no abstinence there. Though I suppose the overriding (see what I did there) themes could be said to promote it...blah de blah, yawn...

Oh was it? Well I suppose they have to spell everything out for some of their slower viewers. I mean they're just short of having giant subtitles underneath some scenes saying "OH LOOK GUYS, IT'S A BLOOD SOAKED ORGY! AND THERE'S SOME PENIS!"

I've become quite fond of Andy Bellefleur actually, he used to annoy me but now I'm rootin for him big time.

Not as much as I'm rootin for Hoyt though, wahey

Several male boardies have admitted to reading Twilight you know! And I know there's even more who've seen the film.

It's nothing to be ashamed of guys.

Wanting to learn a few tips for getting the ladies from The Master Himself is not a crime.

Fred, I could forgive someone for watching the film, but reading the book is a bit much.
