regarding the new wheels

does anyone else think that you'd expect walt to be too smart to be renting those fancy cars? even if no one is suspecting him, you'd think that it'd still be an obvious thing not to do?

Yeah I reckon it's in keeping with his character at this point, he obviously feels like he's won now and can do whatever he wants.

Wow. Stellar episode, up there with Crawl Space IMO. The cold open with the cars and the Knife Party track, Skylar and Walt's exchange in their bedroom (best use Skylar has been put to in a long while), the bacon thing, Walt shaving his head, Jesse's present and the final shot. Incredible piece of work.

Did you notice it was directed by Rian Johnson, who made that film Brick, the Bruce Willis/JGL time travel film that's coming out soon and the 'contamination' episode from S3 (I think), the one that takes place entirely in the superlab and they're trying to catch the fly.

He's got a great style and obviously fucking loves Breaking Bad.

Love that Fly episode, one of my favourites.

Didn't enjoy this weeks episode as much as others tbh. I thought the car revving scene at start was kind of lame, maybe it's Walt Junior, he's super gimpy when he's pretending to be bad ass. Finding it hard to care about Walt now that he's on full throttle descent.

Looking forward to seeing more Mike and Hank.

Great episode, the scenes with Walt and Skyler were unsettling as f*ck. And I know people who complained about the family episodes earlier on, they probably won't like this one, more fool them. Brilliantly shot too

Re: Walt and the cars, along with wearing the Heisenberg hat, he clearly thinks he's invincible now, he's flying too close to the sun himself. The way he talked to Skyler shows he doesn't even care about his family (well her at least) anymore.

Her reaction to him was brilliant too

Loved when Hank noticed about Lydia, "if she's so uptight why's she wearing mismatched shoes". He's good!

Yeah that's one of my favourite character developments since the start: the way Hank in the beginning was presented as this gung-ho buffoon of a law enforcement type, but over time (Since his near breakdown or since the shooting, or both) he's revealed to be a brilliant detective with extraordinary powers of deduction.

He'll be on to Walt sooner or later obviously, but the way I see it the headache for the writers is once that revelation takes place, they've got to start wrapping up the story.

"That" look to his superior when he said something about Gus being right under their noses was either a red herring, or we'll learn later he's been investigating Walt on the QT for a while, but told nobody.

Edit: actually yeah remember the scene between Hank and Marie in the car when Hank thought it was Walter having an affair, he said "I knew, you know with the second cell phone and all" - he's going to now start thinking if it wasn't him having the affair why did he have the second phone?

On the breaKing bad insider podcast they basically said the cars were there for product placement money, which is fine, not that intrusive, I thought and mad men took all the amc money.

That is brilliant. I liked the scene and the track used but just parking them up in the driveway and revving them, shot going from badge to badge was awful. Makes some sense now.

I'd say that Hank's promotion is going to take him out of the hunt for quite a bit, he'll be dragged into all the politics and the rest of the lads don't seem all that observant.

Can someone remind me of the episode that this time jump was meant to have occurred?

I don't remember them portraying Hank like that. He had more bravado before his accident but I never felt they portrayed him as not a great cop. He's always been great at his job. Its actually one of the best things about the writing, its so easy for the cop to look like a complete fool for not figuring it all out but they've walked that line very well.

Not as well written is Skylar, I still can't feel much sympathy for her. She's just too annoying.

Great interview with Vince Gilligan here

You need to to have seen up to maybe episode 3 of the new series to listen to it.
