well its a marked change from previous campaigns where the weight of expectation had a negative effect on players. If they go out in the group stage, at least people wont have expected anything more. Especially after they got screwed in the group draw, people can seethe at Fifa rather than the players/manager. They couldn't get near Italy at the euros, and the italian's possesion game will absolutely kill them in the middle of the amazon. Nobody is expecting them to beat one of the best SA teams in SA either

Cole is well past his best. Baines is ahead of him for England so it makes sense to bring Shaw.

I wouldn't say Cole is past his best at all, he's looked very impressive the few games he's gotten this season. If England did manage to get through, however unlikely, and Baines was injured or not playing well, I'd want Cole rather than Shaw especially for high pressure matches.

Cole is still excellent defensively but he doesnt offer anywhere close to the others going forward. In the recent games for Chelsea, he wasnt asked to even break the line with the back 4, nevermind get into the opposition half. Both Baines and Shaw can cover the whole flank

Them going over not expecting to get out of the group is bad form imo. Fair enough if they see themselves as big outsiders to win it. Even at that they should be still thinking it's a possibility.

You shouldn't have to have be one of the favourites to win the World Cup to go and give it your best.

Liverpool bid on Lallana. Mirror reporting Utd have Shaw deal wrapped up.

I'd have brought Cole and Shaw. Baines is a better player but had fuck all experience, is 30 himself so hardly one for the future.

Baines jagielka and Gary Cahill and Glenn Johnson is such a mediocre backline.

I've been very impressed with Cahill this year. But I suppose that's alongside Terry, Ivanovic and Azpilicueta, who are all great players.

Cahill and Jagielka are very solid. Johnson and Baines are both decent getting forward. Its not a star studded back 4 but its decent enough. I think the lack of balance in midfield is Englands biggest problem.

Dunno about Lampards inclusion at all. But then I don't know who you'd replace him with either. Barry maybe. Certainly not Cleverley or Carrick.

Wonder how many managers will get the sack between now and next season?

Pepe Mel, Lambert, Sherwood, Pardew, Allardyce all strong contenders.

Poyet's apparently having problems at Sunderland. Giggs'll go. That's possibly 7. Jose's unpredictable as fuck so he could be 8.

League could look a lot different AGAIN next year
