the cliffs of moher are cool and there are so many cute little towns on the clare coast...great surfing there too

i was more impressed though with the antrim coast. Much more to see and loads of game of throne locations.
I'd prefer to... how do you say... keep it green

been tracking and translating on twitter
11:20pm - RT @GiseldaBlanco: Curfew on Koh Phangan too - bars on the Ban Tai strip of road shut down by police within last hour #ThaiCoup
this is pretty devastating. everything is pre-paid and i'm unlikely to get any refund if i don't go
Apparently they enforced the curfew in Phuket too. This is how Patong looks like

were you planning a mental holiday or just a break in the sun?

if the later then i wouldn't lose out on a pre=paid holiday over a curfew that could be lifted before you even get there

hardly looks like the friendliest place at the moment, and the thoughts of being forced indoors aren't that appealing either
they've blocked TV stations and now are threatening social media shut downs
not really the happy 2 weeks i was looking forward to

i can see why it wouldn't sound too appealing to fly into a country where there's a coup and a curfew but at its current level it's simply a nuisance for a holidaymaker

i've spent time there whilst under curfew and it was grand

a quick look on my usual go-to source of info and the pubs were still open in samuii into the night. the 7/11s are closing at 10.00 but the foodlands are still open. no presence of military.

whens the flight?

I think the last coup was only for BKK and a few other places, this one's nationwide.

I still can't imagine the islands being affected that much though.

yeah, the last few curfews had been restricted to BKK and a few larger cities (whereever large groups of protesters had congregated) so this is a little different. the last coup would have been nationwide.

i was smack bang in the centre of it and it was still fine. you weren't supposed to be out from 22.00 - 5.00. groups of more than 5 people were forbidden. in reality all it meant was that some big venues were shut down and that you're fucked if you were seen to be organising any sort of protest gathering

There was a curfew on bars one night when I was in Thailand as well. The kings birthday or some such twaddle. We just stocked up in the shops before hand and went to the beach. Turns out we weren't the only one's with that idea and ended up having a great night.

irish department of foreign affairs is saying to exercise extreme caution and avoid protest sites

samuii is famous for not complying with licencing/opening hours orders from BKK but word is that the army have contacted the governor of the province warning him to enforce the curfew

there's been an earthquake somewhere and we felt it. work building was just evacuated and i'm not sure if it will have an impact on the airport yet
so if i manage to get to koh samui it will be in spite of a military coup, a curfew and a fucking earthquake
