Enjoyed Florence and the Machine last night in Belfast. Mostly by the fact it exceeded what I expected by quite a bit.

The slow stuff was a bit boring in the middle, but the lively stuff was fun. And she's absolutely mental.

I stayed for The Staves and left just before Florence came on. Couldn't be having her to be honest.

I got very bored of The Staves after like 2 songs. And I only arrived in time for about their last 3.

I'm sure they'd be good in church or something.

The cider was nice though.

Honest question - has it really escalated a huge massive amount recently or is it just the fact the press are reporting on it now?

You should take a leaf out of Tim's book.
Or preferably, thedark's.

I love the hypocrisy of certain papers over it all too

Pretty sure I also saw the Mail call for Cameron to send troops to Calais at one point.

I'm getting annoyed by both sides of the debate TBH. Of course we should help people but its not that simple. Talk of taking 40,000 like some people are demanding seems quite high, thats 1% of the population. We could maybe absorb that but it wouldn't be without serious problems. I think the 12,000 figure seems much more reasonable. Although not if Europe is only taking 160,000 in total.

160,000 seems low when Germany are predicting 800,000 applicants.

Isn't the official line that Ireland are taking 4,000? Nothing really. Far more leave here to go to australia every year

I'm no expert but it certainly seems like the EU have very little protocol in place with regard to processing and distributing refugees in an orderly and civilised way. I think the frenzied free for all that is being portrayed in the media is scaring people into thinking we are going to be overrun or something.

The papers certainly don't help with descriptions like 'floods' 'tides' and 'swarms'

160,000 is the European quota I think. Germany are taking more because are desperate for young people with kids to sustain their economy as their indigenous population is aging and shrinking.

But these people can't pay tax. They're living in tent cities and lagers (people storage camps).
