Hi guys. Looking forward to staying in the EU with you all
DUP will go nuts if they get treated differently to the rest of the UK. Gonna be fun times. Wonder what David Cameron thinks of it all.
Guess What? This happened

Am I being paranoid or is Ireland's u-turn on claiming unpaid tax from Apple a little too close to the EU having our back regarding Brexit?

I don't think paranoia's the word.
I'm sure Donald Tusk's resounding backslap for Leo last week was a quid pro quo arrangement.

dont think the 2 are linked. If it didnt suit the EU's negotiating position and make the UK look weak, they woudnt give a fuck about the border imo

Might be right actually. Just reading about it there and it does seem that the governments joint appeal with Apple is still going ahead, just that the money is going into the holding account while the appeal is waiting to be heard, which was always the plan anyway.

It was funny timing though and i thought the exact same as phier when i saw the announcement yesterday morning.

i think they'd still care about the border. the good friday agreement is one that was held up as a model for other conflicts, and the EU seen their role as pivotal (human rights, free movement of people etc) to the whole thing. they wouldn't want to see that fall apart, and obviously wouldn't want a return to what we had before on the doorstep of western europe.

We have our veto and that meant the border was always going to matter. Plus here are a lot of countries on the continent with Brexit style movements at the moment and the EU needs to look like they back their own.

Isn't it mad to think that the only keeping the agreement from happening is that the DUP happen to hold the balance of power in London? Like, if May hadn't called an election last year, and had her majority as it was, then the Tories were happy to say bye bye to the north (broadly speaking)

Its nuts. These are people who don't believe in evolution, global warming, etc some of them are even flat earthers. And there they are holding the balance of power between the UK and Europe.

Tomorrow is the next important day for Europe since Macron: Schultz & Merkel decide whether they can work together again.

I'm not sure how closely you guys have been following it but there's 2 issues that just are mental. First are these "impact reports " that David Davis said he couldn't release so the EU didn't know the UK negotiating position. Then released them "heavily redacted" but today admitted that actually they'd never actually carried out any impact reports at all.

Then there's the fact the British cabinet, despite May constantly saying "Brexit means Brexit" have yet to actually have a discussion where they set out what style or level of Brexit they actually want, be it completely out or in customs unions etc.

It's hard to tell if it's more incompetence or outright lying tbh
