And there we have it, the only good thing Duke Special has ever done.

They're easily one of my favourite bands. I love them to utter pieces.

Their first two albums '#1 Record' and 'Radio City' are equally as good. Amazing songs and production. They get very dark on 'Third/Sister Lovers'; 'Holocaust' chills me to my bones every time I hear it.

I don't count any of the reunion albums as Big Star albums and the 'Keep An Eye On The Sky' box set is only if you want to loads of alternate mixes and takes.

I would recommend the compilation of Chris Bell solo material, 'I Am The Cosmos'. The title track is incredible and there are tons of gems on the album.

yeah I'm going to get stuck into their stuff over the next few days. 'third' is the album that's been recommended to me the most so I'm looking forward to giving that a spin.

just realised i meant to stick this video in the listening thread lol.

'Third/Sister Lovers' is the product of a very different band, they were down to just Alex Chilton and Jody Stephens, the drummer at that point. It was compiled by the producer after it was recorded and they never settled on a full tracklisting. That doesn't stop it being incredible though.

I'd start at the start with '#1 Record'. You can see the band evolve if you go chronologically then.

Christ, 'Holocaust' as an introduction! I only heard it years after hearing the first two albums when I got the box set. That was back in my anti-downloading days and it was like some unattainable goal, to hear that song that is.

'Thirteen' is a beautiful song alright and a good start.

If you want a good cover of a Big Star/Alex Chilton/Chris Bell song then check out Kim Deal and Tanya Donnelly of the Breeders covering Bell's 'You And Your Sister'. Gorgeous.

Yeah, they're getting loads of press. Finally, I suppose!

Check out Chris Bell's solo album, 'I Am The Cosmos', if you can. Some utter gems on that.

I love the bit about the lunch threads where the woman is crying and the text says "Oh Mooch., your lunch thread was way better"
