watched the 1st two episodes of Big Mouth. It's pretty fucked. kinda fitting with it being Nick Kroll. Was gonna avoid it cause of his involvement, but someone suggested it to me. It's alright

essentially a cartoon that delves straight into puberty

GBBO
Found my interest waning this week, not really rooting for any of the remaining candidates.
I don't want Steven to win. He wasn't all that shit hot this week anyway.
Stacey's work looks ugly as sin.
Sophie must know she's out of her league. Would be funny if she suddenly pulled it out of the bag.
im just so glad stacey is gone!
i have no interest in any of the final 3 winning. it's between stephen & sophie now so i guess i'll root for kate?

still pissed off about liam

Loving Mindhunter. Glad to know there will be more.

Vice Principals has been amazing this season
Walter Goggins being humiliated by his sisters was some of the most disturbing scenes I've seen in a while. He's amazing.

this series of the walking dead is so shit, like painfully so

never mind how slow and dragged out the storyline is, or how badly it's written, but the direction is just terrible. is it a new director or something?

anyway, not sure if that's a spoiler or not, sorry.

Assume its a load of different directors like most shows. Show runner is the same AFAIK. I haven't watched the last 2 episodes yet but from what I've seen so far its all just horribly lazy.

Anyone see Nowhere Fast last night, RTE's latest stab at a sitcom. With the emphasis on stab.

Christ, it was fucking terrible. The main one, Alison Spittle, who also wrote and created it, cant act for shit. It looks awful, camera and lighting is total garbage and the dialogue was painful. Comedy or not, people just don't talk like that.

Yet, bizarrely, people falling over themselves to say how much they love it on twitter. Glowing reviews. They mentioned abortion in it you see, which makes it dark and daring.

I just can't bring myself to put it on. I'm dropping so many shows at the moment. The golden era of TV is well and truly dead now.

Going where every young people show in the US and UK has gone for the last 10 years.

I was thinking this the other day. I think there's just too many outlets trying to do too many things.

I also think the dumping of full series in one go and binge watching is impacting quality cos it makes for a different type of show. If you watch 6 episodes of something back to back you just don't take it in like you do watching and concentrating on an episode for 40 minutes a week.

Star Trek has been really good I've thought and partly because you have to wait a week for each episode and that makes it feel a bit more of an actual TV event again.

Anyone watch The Sinner on Netflix? Jessica Biel is the main star. She murders a perfect stranger on a beach and they're trying to figure out what caused her to go mad. (That happens in 1st few mins and is in the byline of the show so didnt spoil anything). Kind of like a reverse whodunnit. Watched all 8 episodes over the weekend, I thought it was very good. Some great acting in it from Bill Pullman, herself and the guy who plays her husband

halfway through this at the moment. really good acting - slow moving but just the right amount for the feel of the show

I think thats a good point. Is there a brilliant, truly great streaming show yet? I've liked a fair bit of the stuff they put on Netflix but I can't think of any of it as being in the same league as Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Deadwood, Mad Men, etc I can't even think of a streaming show that comes close to being in that conversation. I thought Mindhunter was really good and maybe has the potential for that but who knows, a lot of streaming shows fall apart over time too and I think waiting till 2019 for the next series could hurt it.

On the topic of the lost art of waiting a week for each episode of a show you love; something I always note about The Sopranos' flawless nature is that they never, ever did cliffhangers.

Except that one time...
...when Tony was shot in s6e1. Correct me if I'm wrong and there were others?
Obviously there were plenty of eps that would end with a huge question mark, but never in a holy shit, Lost/Breaking Bad/Game of Thrones type of way.

Every other episode would just hit this incredible dramatic note with the closing music (hand-picked by David Chase for every single episode, apparently), and then either fade or smash to the credits.

And the show was all the better for it.
