Vince Staples and the Earl album for me. Really enjoyed the Tyler album but the songs work better live. Kendrick album is insanely good.

Actually, I keep meaning to listen to Drake but I never have. Worth it?

the original version of the TD theme is really brilliant. off cohen's 'popular problems' album.

in fact that whole album is great.

Yeah Drakes newest is good. But you have to put up with Drake.

Lot of good new hip hop out this year. Earl, Kendrick, Tyler, Death Grips, Dr Dres one sounds great on first listen, Young Fathers if you can call them hip hop still.

I'm listening to a lot of stuff off Stones Throw and Brainfeeder these days. Mndsgn, Knxwledge, Thundercat, Flying Lotus, Lapalux, Ras. G. Leaning towards hip-hop but not exactly there.

I've been listening to Danny Brown, A$AP Rocky, Ratking, Run The Jewels, the new Cannibal Ox, Freddie Gibbs, and Lazer Sword too and my housemate is after getting me into Das Racist and Heems among other things as well.

I still think MF DOOM, Madlib and J Dilla are the shit though. So fucking good. I could never get tired of DOOM.

I had gone off rap completely until Run the Jewels came along.

Killer Mikes solo stuff and RTJ are the only hip hop albums of recent years I've really got into I think. Don't mind A$AP, Kendrick, etc but they just don't grab me. Bit too laid back or something. And I just don't like the over use of vocal effects.

I've really enjoyed the Shabazz Palaces releases.

I was really into stuff like Anticon, Def Jux, Big Dada, Lex, Antipop Consortium in the first half of the 00s. Some great stuff put out back then.

I haven't even noticed that. Is that a thing? On what tracks does Kendrick use rakes of vocal effects?

Gave Nightclubbing by Grace Jones a spin this morning. Liking it so far. That's most likely another one for the EP list this year.

I got that on LP a few years back. I get to play it out a fair bit, everyone loves Grace Jones it seems.

Check out her cover of 'She's Lost Control' by Joy Division:

They cancelled the whole European tour that year citing "family circumstances". There was a Deerhunter forum at the time and it went into more detail but I cannot remember the reason now and the forum is long gone.

Going to see them in Dublin and hopefully either Brussels or the Le Guess Who? festival in Utrecht. Cannot wait.
