Ooh must listen to that Speedy Ortiz. They're playing Whelan's in October. Saw them twice last year, and I'm sorry to say their gig in the Workman's had the most pathetic crowd I've ever seen at a gig. You could hear crickets between every song, not even a polite clap or a cheer. And the band were great like!

I wanted to go up and give Sadie a kiss to make her feel better

New album to follow! Not sure if I care. They were unbelievable when I saw them a few years ago though.

Found myself not keeping up with my what.cd notifications to the point where I've been out of the loop of new music for quite some time. Just not enough time.
Hopefully I can catch up and find a better way.
I know it's not a race, but I'm sure I've missed some beauts.

really class band. their stuff sounds shoegazey to me but they describe themselves as being 'grindcore'. they've been compared to lush in the past.

That sounds really good. I wouldn't call them 'grindcore' though. Could be a language thing, they're Russian aren't they?

This is grindcore:

yeah they're russian and i think it could be indeed a language thing. they're apparently very conscious of not sounding like shoegaze wannabes or 'copycats' as they put it, though. that might have something to do with it.

they played in st phillips church quite early on and they drew in a very big crowd, people sat in the aisles and everything for it.

I've yet to listen to them but I know the guy who runs the label they're signed to. Pretty sure he was off on that tour the past few days.

Time to check them out.

really brilliant.

listened to it twice already this morning. strikes me as being very much a headphones album, though. not sure how it would come across live? he's playing the apollo later in the summer and the capacity is around 4k. might be better to sit down for that one.

madisen ward and mama bear, who i like a lot, are the support for that gig too

Hookworms - 'The Hum'

I cannot wait to see them at Primavera. This and 'Pearl Mystic' have been two of my favourite albums of the past few years.

eric, you like Sharon van Etten don't you? Have you listened to Torres at all? Her new album is quite good;

I think it may be his best album which is some feat given how highly I rate previous attempts.

I already have front row seats for his RFH date. Very interested to see how he compiles a career spanning set list that works.

yes dwayne, love SVE. will try torres out.

NG - i just assumed (wrongly, it would seem) that he would be playing the new album in full. due to how it plays, and the personal nature of it.

i did love 'a little lost' which came out last year but i remember listening to his earlier material at times and never being grabbed by it. i will need to go back to it.

He appears to be playing the album in its entirety with a nice selection of other songs thrown in on top. Only one from the last album which makes a lot of sense. It's going to be such drastically different show to the last few times I've seen him!

I'm sure there are parts of his back catalogue that you'd like a lot Eric.

mixing in Seven Swans more than anything cause it fits closest in tone to C&L

I missed going to him in Toronto last week, cause didn't hear he was playing for ages. Would have bought a tout ticket on the day and went myself (never went to a gig on my own before but would have here) but I'd a football game that night so did that instead

I wouldn't be a Sufjan superfan or anything but I've got a couple of his albums and this one is definitely my favourite.
