A few sausages on the final lap to give him the extra energy he needs.

Rowing season finishes up on the 20th July. Will take a couple of weeks off then when it's done, then training for next rowing season will probably start in early September again.

Contemplating entering the Dublin Marathon as a means of making myself do a different kind of training to keep me in some kind of shape over summer (and I'd also like to start my next rowing season a few kilos lighter. How would Dublin rank as a marathon for a beginner?

I went for the longest run I've done in a long time this morning, just under 12k in about an hour and 5 minutes or so and felt fairly fresh after it

Dublin is fairly tough, but not terribly so; there's quite a bit of elevation gain over the course, but no absolute killer hills. Weather will normally be grand, though last time I ran was in 2014 and it was very humid. Here's a program put together by Hal Higdon that might be of use; http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51137 ... ng-Program

The most important thing (if you're gonna run it) is to make sure and do a long run every week. If you miss some sessions it's grand, but if you start skipping the long runs then you'll be in for an awful lot of pain on the day.

I say this as someone who recently tried to run a marathon after missing most of my long runs (through a combination of injuries and laziness).......had to pull out after 30k.

my biggest lesson on the long runs, the last few of which were a disaster, was to properly equip myself with enough water/gels that you need for 20+ miles

I was hitting the wall, because the belt I had just couldn't hold enough water. this time round I've got a bladder that I've stuffed into my running bag

I genuinely think Dublin is grand, not that tough at all.

Id get the latest copy of Irish runner, Team Carrie training plan in that. And sign up now, it's gonna sell out by end of June

As i was saying... Holloway... total lightweight, no stopping power.

Aldo visibly shrank as soon as Holloway relaxed and started taunting him.

Very good card overall.
Yer man Bamgbose is wild.

haha same here! I think Aldo gassed in the first round when he tried that big knee at the end of the flurry where he was loading up on everything, he wasnt the same afterwards. Apart from the finish, I didnt see anything from Holloway in the fight that made me think he was shit hot.

Bambose is a mental fighter to watch. Only second time I've seen him but both times were entertaining. The Silva Medeiros stoppage was a bit early, especially when you look at how much time Aldo was given, but that was a really good fight as well. Only one I didnt watch was Belfort

Mayweather vs McGregor then.

Potentially the biggest 2 individual sporting payouts ever, and its a lad from Crumlin involved. Mad

He's going to make at least $80m before the PPV buys come in

whatever your thoughts on the fight as a spectacle, you have to hand it to him

Personally dont give him more than a punchers chance.

I do think he will put Mayweather on his arse, but it will be as a result of a throw from a clinch or something

What about outside the ring. McGregor got inside Aldo's head in the worst way, and Alvarez was absolutely terrified of him.

Is there any evidence that Mayweather be affected by trash talk, will he be impervious to it etc.

I'm not arsed with it as a fight but delighted for him all the same. He really brought himself from nothing to top of the world, he's incredible tbf

the build up will fantastic. Probably much better than the fight.

Hard to see him ever fighting UFC anytime soon after. I'd say he'll 'retire' and maybe come back in a year or two when he's bored or his absence will get him the nonsense pay day he'll want (which still won't be near this fight)

That's December sorted so.

I'd still much rather see him fight Ferguson though.
