I'm mixed.

I work 9-6 instead of 9-5 at home. I never get to take a lunch break, always end up grabbing something and bringing it back to my desk, and regularly get stuck having to do overtime (about 10 hours a week). My team is small, so when the girl who sits next to me gave in her notice cause the management were being cocks about time off, it means i'm going to be saddled with a stupid amount of work now. My manager is here about 8 months (hired externally) and still doesn't have a clue whats going on

Plus side, i get to claim overtime (including usually an hour daily for not lunching) which boosts my wage nearly 20%. I live only 20/30 mins away from work on public transport. I arrive in between 10 & 30 mins late every morning and although it's been brought up in a few meetings on a team level, I've never been sat down 1 to 1 about it. I've created enough good will to get away with it :p

My boss rang me 5 minutes ago. Asked me to find some documentation from 1994. I said it couldn't be found. She then asked me why it wasn't on file. I said I didn't know as I was studying for my leaving cert at the time. I'm going to pay for that one.

i enjoy what i do, everyday is different to an extent and it interests me, it was tough going through the recession though

there are plenty of downsides.. work for myself so its a never ending battle to get paid, very hard to take holidays and i can end up working ridiculous hours when its busy

the other side of the coin though is that i have a few bits in the pipeline outside everyday work so being self employed gives me the chance to move my time around to do other things too

overall i am happy with it though, and would hope not to have to work for anyone again

My job is grand.

This time last year I had two jobs and was knackered. I was a shell of person, it wasn't worth it.

Now am scraping by in my 9-5. Lots of things irk me but I don't have it bad.

The commute is a doddle, 10mins, 45 mins walk. No traffic.

A big minus is that there is no room for promotion, I'm on the same salary since I started four years ago. I've just trained in some newbs who are going to be running similar projects. They earn the same as me.

This job will do fine while I look for another one.

I hate it. I've had a few different jobs. My last job I quite liked but it was a temporary contract.

There's a lot I hate about this one though. I hate the culture of the place. I hate the travel. I hate the people who buy into the culture and for whom work is their life rather than a means to get paid and have a life.

But, when my last job's contract ended I needed something and I'd rather do something to get money rather than live off the dole. And at least I can get paid while I look for a job I'd like.

Job I have now is much better than what I had in LK...was working 7pm-3am then, living at home, generally it was pretty shit. This place is Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm, with all Irish bank holidays off (and all of Xmas week). Work isn't too bad and not nearly as stressful as my last place. Don't plan on being here more than a year, but if it turned out I was I wouldn't be too annoyed.

I don't mind my job. I was very lucky to be kept on on a part time basis and work around my college hours. And I'm doing only graphic design/marketing stuff now which is what I enjoy most.

I only do 20-25 hours a week during the academic year and full time otherwise.

My commute is about 3/4 minutes by car. Do the odd bit of overtime but nothing too bad.

My one gripe would be my current office which is windowless and heated with those horrible electrical heaters and its very depressing. Especially at this time of year where the only bit of daylight I see is driving to and from college.

Mine varies by the contract but generally, when I'm doing the actual development work, I'm pretty happy with it. At the moment, I hate it a bit because I have to deal with client staff constantly. Most of these people don't seem to know what's going on, so I end up answering the same questions all the time.

I'm well compensated, so I shouldn't complain but it does wear me down a bit.

i like mine. i've been doing the same thing for a good while and always liked it, it's just on a bigger scale because the markets are bigger here. means that i have a bigger team to help, and the day to day job is more management than what i'd been doing before.
i've really done nothing but work for the last 18 months though. its pretty full on.
the company are pretty good to everyone too. gym in work, classes and football organised etc. theyre a good bunch

would love to work for myself

No, and i'm looking to get out. i've worked here for the last 8 years but that last 2 years have been hell due to a change in CEO and management structure. CEO never liked me and liked me even less when i stood up for myself and said i wasn't going to take on the new job stuff when he changed a lot of people's jobs. I've been lumped with our marketing department and we have an absolute spoofer as the head of marketing. he hates me too and has made my work life sh1t. I'm pretty sure i've a good case of bullying against him. :|

I fucking hate my job.
I dread going to bed every night knowing that when I wake up I have to come into this shit hole. I dispise near every aspect of it. Every single day for the past 8.5 years I've died a little inside to the point where each day is a blur. Each moment in this office I feel a mid-50s guy who hates his wife but only stays with her for the kids. They act civil with each other, not just in front of others but to each other, as if keeping the facade up is the only thing from a knife fight in the kitchen that starts over the dinner being slightly too salty.
The clients I deal with are almost all complete cunts. The most demanding, arrogant pricks you would ever come accross. Every few minutes something new is "SUPER EXTRA MEGA URGENT" when it is in fact something entirely inconsequential. It's even hard to muster any enthusiasm for the actual important issues, because all it's doing to making some rich fucks richer. It's a constant battle where you just have to lube up, bend over and take it (figurately, it's not THAT bad), becuase ultimately the reviews and scorecards from the clients are what determine your performance review. Those clients who are not like that fall into the 'haven't single breeze about what's going on at all'. They expect you to know things that you'd have no possible way of know e.g. "do you think our traders will do something like that?" You just want to reply in 72pt bold red font "How in the name of fuck could I possibly know what your own traders what to do you thick fuck?" But no, you have to stick to 'professional' language and dance around with the words as to not insult them.
Then there are the dickheads I work with. With the exception of one guy who I've known long before joining here, I wouldn't bat an eyelid if the rest of them died in a horrible accident. The place seems to attract every manner of oddball who collectively have the social skills of Rain Man. Everyone seems to have their own agenda and have no problem stabbing each other in the back for their own gain becuase they somehow equate their status within the job with their life success in general and lets them not just be a cunt in the office, but outside the office. The majority of those in management are vile cunts. The constant undercurrent of racism, mysogny and general bullying is deplorable. The upper management think they can get away with near anything - because within the office they can. But this boils over into the real world, in that every 6 months or so news comes through that another SVP has lift his wife because be was fucking all around him like a dog with two mickeys. But if you want to get anywhere here, you have to be jack the lad and laugh it off, high five and brown nose your way into a promotion.
Then there's the beloved business talk. You're almost looked down upon if you dont use the usual cliches. It's as if there's an unwritten rule that if you're a straight talker you don't know what you're doing. This is due to people being afraid to say "I don't know" in answer to something that they don't fucking know. Stop wasting time waffling about something that has nothing to do with the question. I don't care how much you know about this or that, hows about we just take our cocks out to measure and figure out who's the alpha male. it'll be quicker and probably more dignified that me standing here pretending that irregardless is a real word.

But I'm still here, becuase I'm used to it, or more accuratly, I'm numb to it. I'm able to do my job well and the pay is decent, benefits and holidays are brilliant. Plus, some days you can just turn up, zone out and do nothing all day. After all these years, if my boss gets on my back about something not being done, I'm well versed in being able to come up with a valid excuse to buy me more time. Most importantly it takes me under 5 mins to walk to work and I'm a very, very lazy man.

TL;DR - I work for cunts, with cunts and am a cunt.
