we just got in a 13 page CV with giant photo of your man on the front page of it. Never see the likes of it before.
Got two weeks left in my job and got to get a job as soon as I can. applications going out everywhere.
I've had very little activity in the 2 months I've been looking for something in Dublin
the only interviews I've had are with a small company where I think (and the recruiter thinks) it's too junior, and the other is back to big 4 accounting practice where I know the hours are v bad.

I have been offered a job and I'm really happy about it.
I've been slugging away in the community sector at kinda poor pay with zero security for over 7 years.
I have no experience in playing ball with companies and asking for an increase in the offer. The offer is generous to my eyes, it exceeds the figure I stated when asked my expectations.
I've checked comparative salaries with other companies and it is up there with the better paid similar positions.
I'm happy to accept it but have been given the weekend to mull it over.
Anyone have advice on this?

Same place. Have been trying to make transition out of it for ages. Started a masters this year to help me make a move.Phierstarter wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2017 9:46 pm7 years in the same place, or industry?
Take it if you're happy with it.
Feels like a massive win.

Sounds great cat, just take it!
I was contacted from home last week about a position. I was massively torn. Don't think I would have been able to turn it down if it worked out, but we've just had kids and it doesn't feel like the time to up sticks and move. As it happened, it didn't progress to interview due to time pressure (I've 3 months notice) but I'm still on good terms. Hopefully it will give me a foot in if we decide to pack up any time soon
This is a big worry of mine when it's time to move home, although I don't think my industry is as restricted as yours.

I guess.
The last two years have been ropey.
My contract is year to year and for the duration of the project. For five years my projects ran right into each other and I had continuous unbroken employment.
For the last two years the state body issuing my grant have been trying to enforce a month unpaid break in contract. This pissed me off a lot. I had to get union help to navigate it, it took two years struggle and this year they did not break my contract. No one admitted that what they were doing was going against employment law.
The idea of the break is that the stakeholders need a month to review the project and decide if it has been successful. They can discontinue it if they wish.
No pay raise in seven years despite an increase in responsibility and coordinating a very successful project.
I've liked my job but it's not very supportive.

That's bad alright.i_ate_cats wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 8:48 amNo pay raise in seven years despite an increase in responsibility and coordinating a very successful project.
yeah, like I wouldn't see myself as the best networker, but in Dublin, I've had decent offers over the last little while just based on people I've worked with who have moved on. It's also how I got my current job. In London, I don't think they give as much credit to experience outside of Londonmaradara wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 7:12 amSounds great cat, just take it!

After over 11 years, today is my final day in this job.
