Arrival was disappointing. Not terrible but a bit run of the mill. Was expecting more.

Lego Batman is a blast, so much fun. Was at an early matinee with my nieces and nephews, everyone enjoyed it but the geeky kids will love it. The amount of referencing of not only the DC universe but other sci-fi/fantasy is really joyous and it totally pulls off the self aware thing.
Voice acting is top notch, Michael Cera's best role in a long time.

I really want a Bane Lego figurine.

Behind the Candelabra was on BBC late on Saturday.

Pretty good movie, Michael Douglas and Matt Damon are both great in it.

I recall Soderbergh saying it went to HBO because none of the studios would buy it off him - it was "too gay".

It is turbo gay, for what it's worth.

Early on in 50 Shades Darker, one of the actresses types fake typing like someone who has clearly never seen anyone type before. You're in the middle of laughing at that when you realise that she has no fucking screen in front of her anyway. I laughed so much I had to be slapped on the back to stop me choking

This is on RTE on Thursday, unless you're into motorsport you probably won't have heard of him but it's a doc about an Irish driver called Tommy Byrne who supposedly had all the talent of Senna but blew it becasue if his temperament.
Read his autobiography a few years ago, so looking forward to seeing this

Day 8 of 11 at a indie film festival hosted in a couple of bars.
Couple of recent ones worth mentioning include last night's Dark Circus - https://www.darkcircus.net/ - a movie that balances plot and (bdsm) erotic fantasy in a very stylised way while still being open to interpretation. Clearly made by...enthusiasts, shall we say.
Tonight, Nothing to Hide - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/15 ... ocumentary - documentary about surveillance whose main message was how it can and does effect everyone. Preaching to the choir here since i recognised a lot of the people and places in it but was in my element nonetheless. One nice experiment they did was to bug the phone and laptop of a guy who claimed he had nothing to hide for a couple of weeks and then show him what can be inferred from his social graph. Also enthusiasts, promoting crypto parties and they'll put it online for free later in Spring/Summer.

Logan is pretty good lads. Very mature + serious. Feels more like a western and a road movie than anything else for a lot of it; the fantastical elements are secondary to the drama instead of the other way round.

Haven't seen the other two standalone Wolverine movies but I'm fairly certain this is miles better than either of them.

There's not much new about it in terms of the two genres I mention there, but it's very original for a superhero movie, if that makes sense.

That said, it's by far the most violent comic book film I've seen. Wild stuff.
