Genuinely just an excuse for racists to vent. If it was about keeping it close to the source material then they should be complaining about Billy Elliot being The Thing. Gamergate outted these militant nerds as cunts, so no surprises here.

Sounds fine to me, having the Rock on board should be a good sign. Better all the fucking nobodies in the horrendous looking Point Break remake.

The Rock may be charismatic and charming, but he is a terrible, terrible actor

You lost me at "The Rock may be charismatic and charming" but I picked up the scent again at "but he is a terrible, terrible actor".

The thing about Big Trouble in Little China is that Kurt Russell's character is an inept buffoon, around whom everyone else saves the day while he takes the credit.

Rock isn't the issue here imo - he could pull off a role like that if the filmmakers were actually willing to hold on to that element.

They utterly failed to retain any of the wit or satire that made Robocop great, so I don't expect it to actually happen.

A few mentions of Edgar Wright on twitter as a good idea for director. He could/would be up to that challenge, but things maybe a bit tricky for him in LA after the Ant Man business.

I don't know about that, Marvel hire and fire directors like Abramovich does with managers.

Another cause for concern with remakes is they're starting to creep in to TV now. The X-Files, Twin Peaks and that sitcom Full House are all currently being resurrected.

I'm sure there are more you could name? Fans are delighted, with good reason, but is it a sign of more to come I wonder.

Look at it this way, the bar has been set so high in the crime genre over the past ten years by Sopranos/Wire/BB, producers may be likely to shy away from it.

So they say right, let's do a sci-fi/fantasy series. They're very hard to sell to viewers though, look at Battlestar Galactica. Critically acclaimed all through its run, but a microscopic audience. Lost was a game changer, but anything that's tried to follow its formula has been a bit of a disaster.

They need people to want to tune in (sic), which is probably where the X-Files reboot came from. It's an established brand with a household name, a loyal fan base and established stars. Little to do with nostalgia on the production end, or fan service.
