Hey!

And please help...

I watch Netflix via X360 but the noise of the Xbox fan is ridiculous if you have it on for a length of this so wanna invest in something to plug into the tv and has Netflix on its menu to select rather than stream via laptop etc

My initial thoughts are that http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B006VTA ... -1&pi=SL75 looks good - but know there's alternatives like apple tv, boxee, etc

Has anyone used one of these or any view on best one to buy?

My brother had a Western Digital media player that he likes, they might be worth a look.

i got the wd tv live for about £60 on amazon and it's as good a solution as any, looks like it's about £77 there now which is still a great price

i mainly use it for netflix and bbc iplayer but you can also use it with a usb stick/drive to play downloaded media

the wd tv live has the best support for different codecs

best of all, if you use a service like unblock-us, you can change the DNS settings so that you could get US netflix in ireland and probably UK bbc iplayer too (or can you do that anyway?)

Excellent cheers lads - forgot to say that ability to change DNS is essential so it's great that has it. Never tried doing that to see BBC iplayer but if that works then bonus!

How would one go about changing the DNS?

On the WD TV Live? It's somewhere within the network settings. After an auto setup change to manual then edit the DNS setting as per what unblock-us supplies.

As in just use a US based DNS server? That wouldn't achieve anything. The DNS server itself isn't what's allowing you to access the content. It's just supplying you with a list of addresses that do.

just remembered i got given similar details whilst i was using another product in beta, forgot all about it when the beta period ended and went with unblock-us a few months ago

turns out the free service no longer supports netflix and they're coming up with a new solution which involves priorities and queues to get around the problem

it could be the same service? when's the last time you used US netflix?

I actuallly didnt think I had it anymore, coz I changed laptops, but then went onto netflix on the xbox, and although the dns settings were automatic, when I went to change them it had the servers saved

If I were to install Netflix on my computer / ipad / WD Live / etc, would I be able to sign up for netflix and us the different services depending on what country's DNS I'm using under the same log-in.
Or if I wanted to watch UK TV, I'd have to have a UK subscription, and if I wanted to watch US TV I'd have to have a US subscription etc etc ?

yeah you can watch either one. Your subscription is just to netflix. They dont care what you're connecting to, its just that Love Film own the majority of the rights in the uk, so thats why the catalogue is a lot smaller. I use the US version on my xbox, and my laptop for the irish stuff

Is there a way of viewing US Netflix rather than spending €4.99 per month with Unblock us?
