Re: What's on your mind?

It doesn't technically need a referendum I don't think. The wording in the constitution as it is makes no reference to gender in marraige. It just says marraige is the building block for a family. The government could just pass the required legislation but the problem with that is that it would be o...

Re: What's on your mind?

When I was down the country I got the real touch and go feeling about the vote, but when I got up to Dublin and voted here it was all young-ish people out to vote. One girl, in her late 20's/early 30's (clear yes voter) was having her photo taken outside by a friend (girlfriend?) because it her firs...

Re: What's on your mind?

I voted before work this morning and there was a fairly decent number arounda at that stage (around 7:30). A lot more in the 18-34 age group than you'd normally find. That was in Dublin mind so it's always going to have a younger demographic.

Tomorrow afternoon-ish we should have a fair idea of which way it's going.

Re: What's on your mind?

It's dangerous thinking they're all wilful crackpots who can't be reasoned with, though. This is what surprised me the most about some of the people who are willing to vote No. In my own head I believed it would only be the crackpots who would vote against it. I couldn't see a reason to vote No oth...

Re: What's on your mind?

It's that kind of thing that makes me want this referendum done and over with. I've been surprised with a few people saying they plan to vote No (for the same children reasons) and it's hard not to lose a bit of respect for them over it. It's the wilful ignorance of what the referendum is about that...

Re: What's on your mind?

I'm only new to the coffee drinking lark. Started when the young fella was born 16months ago or so. My definition of good coffee is coffee that doesn't taste too strongly of coffee. Otherwise I throw a few sugars in it. My sister-in-laws husband is awful for it though. I offered him a coffee the las...

Re: What's on your mind?

I never really took sugar in tea. It doesn't need it. I'll only take it in coffee if the coffee is overly bitter which a good coffee shouldn't be.

Re: What's on your mind?

That's the problem really. The No side are trying to make this vote about children and I don't think the Yes side are doing enough to explain otherwise. There needs to be a massive push by the yes campaign in the next week to clear this up or else they are in big trouble.

Re: What's on your mind?

I've just moved house and constituency recently and used movemyaddress.ie to move things. I've used them before with no problems, I just hope everything was sorted in time for this vote.

Re: What's on your mind?

I still think it will be a yes but it'll be a lot closer than some think. I've heard a few people going to vote no that surprised me. Most of the time it was for ill informed "think of the children" reasons as well so the no campaign is working.

Re: The Footie Thread 2014/15

Ings should fit as a decent squad player replacement, if we can offload Borini, Lambert & Balotelli. Considering none of them managed to score more than 3 league goals (if even), he's not got a lot to outdo. I'm still hoping we get a more significant name up top so its New striker Sturridge when fi...

Re: What's on your mind?

I've just read back your comment there Phier. I took you up wrong. It's not that you think gay people who want to get married are Jesus lovers, it's that the entire concept of marriage in your mind is tied in with Jesus/religion. Surely you can see how that's a false assumption. Please don't make m...

I love the bit about the lunch threads where the woman is crying and the text says "Oh Mooch., your lunch thread was way better"

Re: What's on your mind?

Yeah, the drink lowers the inhibitions so the lads that would normally be a bit more discreet with their views think they're hillarious. I do hate the lads in the jacks though. The guilt you feel for washing your hands and not throwing him a euro is shocking. It tends to be a good sign of a shit pub...

Re: What's on your mind?

I'd find vegetarianism too boring. I don't mind eating veggie meals but I couldn't go full time.
