Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Okay, maybe *I* don't need character development. It never interests me much.

Also WHO keeps sending those fucking Mary DVDs. 'My Baker Street Boys' made me cringe to death

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Yeah I kinda agree with all of those articles The writers got up their own arse pandering to fanboys (OMFG THEY HUGGED!!! I SHIP THEM etc etc) but in doing so lost focus of what made people become fans in the first place. You don't NEED overarching stories or character development. It's Sherlock Hol...

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

I felt really smart that I figured out the twist early on.
She was drawing a kid with red curly hair and there were clearly other crayons to use. Redbeard = Red Hair. Kind of gave it away

I think this is a big part of it. It tries really, really hard and it doesn't always pay off

I read that Michael B Jordan was up for Gosling's part. I think I would have preferred him.

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Its a shame too because they do a lot of stuff really well but like you say its too self indulgent and I wish they paid as much attention to the script as they do to the visual side of things. Even if they stuck to that self indulgent overarching story arc nonsense, they need to give episodes a plo...

Re: Film Discussion Thread *NO SPOILERS*

La La Land It's good but it's getting the same level of attention as The Artist I think for the same reason that film did - Hollywood likes to congratulate itself in films about movies or ones that at least pay homage to it. Emma Stone carries this entire film tbh and deserves every award. She made...

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Thats Sherlock to a tee, they're just not at the level they assume they are. I blame Tumblr. Tumblr is the reason they pandered to ALL the theories about the fall. They can do no wrong with the fan boys and girls. The people that lost their shit because Sherlock and John hugged. Fuck away off like....

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

It has gone progressively downhill ever since. There's no plot structure anymore.

People liked Sherlock for the banter between the two and the case solving. They've shifted focus from that entirely and stopped doing anything that interested people in the first place

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Nothing makes me lose interest faster than more than 'A show within a show' or novelty episodes where the cast sing or rhyme everything when they normally wouldn't

Recent example: The Stars Hollow Musical. It's often a lot of self indulgent nonsense

Re: Film Discussion Thread *NO SPOILERS*

It took me a while to get into Rogue One but I thought it was great. I enjoyed everyone in the cast and it was nice to actually give a shit what happened to them I kinda missed the opening credits though. I liked having the song at the end but you really, really miss that opening scrolling credits i...

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

My problem with Westworld from start until maybe the last half hour was that there were absolutely no stakes and there was no genuine peril. Humans can't be hurt and the robots can simply be rebooted so I didn't give a shit about them. Even Maeve - the only one with a personality - could be reset no...

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Why are you both saying Delores is Wyatt? Some of Wyatt's code was given to Delores. It's like the Creation of Adam painting methaphor, but Eve. Made from one of his ribs. Because she said she was going to become him Figuratively. I think she will be "good" by the time she leaves WW. Well yeah. Tha...

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Westworld I can't decide if I found this unsatisfying because I saw all the twists coming or because I don't like the storyline. Dolores is Wyatt? I get the foreshadowing in the credits but that's a bit shit. She's not in the least bit intimidating William is The Man In Black. BOOORING. What happene...

Re: What's on your mind?

I'm so confused. The way it reads, Phier, it was like you were insinuating women were made to wear burqas for their protection But that's honestly, ridiculous unless you mean 'Protect one man's property from the eyes of another man' It might be dressed up as something else but a piece of clothing do...

Re: What's on your mind?

So much repetition :( So you don't believe in opportunistic rapists? Is the thief who would steal from you if you're asleep going to steal from someone anyway even if everyone's awake and agrees that stealing is not ok? Will hiding your coins under a blanket stop him from stealing even if he knows ...

Re: What's on your mind?

an angry protective husband and general culture of "thats mine, don't touch it" might put them off. Anyway i'm not talking about prevention. That's not really how rape works though Now. It was the status quo once. Rape has and always will be the same. There's never any thought given for who that wo...
