Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Correct. According to wiki it was controversial because it was nominated (and won) in the miniseries category at the Golden Globes, from which a second season should technically disqualify it. They announced after the nominations or something, so the other shows were bulling.

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Burned through Big Little Lies in the space of a few days, super stuff, highly recommend it. Great performances out of everyone, especially Reese. Nicole and yer one Shailene Woodley played the fragile victim roles brilliantly, but I think she had an equally difficult task in playing the spoiled, pr...

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

The Handmaid's Tale is currently on RTE, missed it on channel 4 last year.

Holy cow. Intense show; quite distressing at times, but phenomenal.

Ah here. Barely a squeak out of anyone all week and suddenly I'm getting lashed ouvih.

I've been inspired to put on a slow chilli first thing in the morning though, so thanks for that.

Re: Film Discussion Thread *NO SPOILERS*

Finally watched Dunkirk on Sat there. Loved it; most tense film I've seen in a long time. The chronology stuff is Nolan's forte, but that aside I think the chaotic, unfocused business of war suits his style too. Maybe the lack of an actual plot helped him along there because exposition is never his ...

Do you reckon? You may be right, he's massively overrated though. I liked his show but his old stand up was only decent IMO and his new stuff can fuck off. I don't say that as a fan now, just feels that way. Who else is there? Seinfeld maybe? Chris Rock? Louis CK? Kevin Hart ? Ah, you mean Michael ...

Re: What's on your mind?

As in 50 quid each? That's reasonable for probably the biggest comedian in the world. 100 each is a bomb for sure, but still, that's where all tickets are these days. Do you reckon? Re: What's on your mind?

Yeah I don't know if I'd go there for a comedian.

IIRC I paid €100 (or close to it) to go see Roger Waters, Paul McCartney and Prince. Tom Waits was €120, and they were all worth every penny.

Bruce Springsteen was nearly €100 and it was fucking terrible. Never going to Croke Park again.

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Mental, that's the word. This might sound like odd criticism but there are actually too many plot twists. Latest ep: If they've pulled another "Kelvin timeline" thing, a la JJ's Star Trek, with this latest "klingons won the war" twist, well fuck that. It's a bit of a slap in the face - another one -...

Seeing Black Panther tomorrow lads; it's being previewed a full two weeks before the release date.

That usually means the test screenings across the water were extremely positive, so they want to get word of mouth out there asap.

Sounds like another slam dunk for Marvel.

Re: What's on your mind?

Like it's just so weird. I feel like you would actually get the 80 quid, but that's more scary than it being a simple/elaborate scam to clean you out. Imagine sending hundreds of photos of yourself and three other people off into the vortex, not knowing where they would end up or what they would be ...

Re: What's on your mind?

Got the weirdest email today, I thought it was a scam at first, but I looked into it and found the person on LinkedIn, and loads about the company online, so fairly sure it was legit. Fucking weird either way. It was a company called iSoftStone, (https://issworld.isoftstone.com/) and they're a "crow...

Re: What's on your mind?

Saw Spamalot last night in grand canal, won tickets in one of those survey draws from Bord Gais (yes people actually win those). It was good fun, all the main scenes from The Holy Grail with added witty musical numbers. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would tbh. Dinner and drinks in the VIP bar too...

Re: TV Show Discussion Thread

Star Trek was decent since the break, two really good eps, but today's one is kind of treading water again. The whole first section was all in with war against the Klingons, then suddenly they've veered into the parallel universe thing. They could have gotten full season storylines out of both of th...

Nothing about the title in any of the article. If it's not for the belt it'll be an absolute farce, no?

The Post Solid newsy drama, Hanks and Streep are typically good, but they roles both of them could do in their sleep tbf. Lots of satisfying Spielbergian touches. You forget how fond he is of the long takes; some of them are superb, especially the first meeting between the two leads. Newsroom cultur...
